Rare Victorian Solid Silver & Copper Hunting Horn, Henry Distin, C. 1867

   An extremely rare Victorian solid silver and copper hunting horn, by Henry Distin. The horn has a silver top half including mouthpiece, and also an applied silver rim to the horn end, with an inscription:'From a few friends, NICHOLAS CORNISH, 1867'. The horn is marked:'HY DISTIN MAKER LONDON'. The silver is not hallmarked, but has been tested as solid silver. Silver Distin horns of this period very seldom come on the market.    A pair of handsome Copper, Brass and glass Victorian gas lanterns, came from Henry Moon's house, Horse Stone House, Parr Lane Eccleston, Lancs. Originally as gas lanterns that lit the main entrance they were later fitted with electric lamps and re-installed by the previous owner of Horse Stone House to light up a side entrance when the house was restored about 40 years ago.
