Large Antique Arts And Crafts Solid Copper, Country House Pendant Light Chandelier With A Moroccan Moorish Influence In Its Design Dating From The Late 19th Century This Chandelier Started Its Life In'Thorton Manor, Cheshire' Which Was The Family Home Of The Lever Brothers. We Acquired It From A Family Who's Working History Was In'Thorton House', Where They Acquired It During Renovations In The Mid 20th Century. It Became A Feature Light In Their Home For Many Years Prior To Downsizing. Made To An Exceptional Standard All From Solid Copper, Which Includes The Ceiling Mount And Heavy Duty Fine Copper Chain (slinky). Originally This Piece Would Have Been Lit By Gas Or Oil, At Some-point In The Early 20th Century The Gas Fitting Has Been Removed To Make Way For A Electric Flex, The Conversion Remains And Has Since Been Re-Wired With An Antique Style Cloth Covered Mains Cable, So It Is Ready For Your Electrician To Install.
Inside The Bowl Of The Pendant A Small Screw Threaded Rod Remains, Which Would Of Held The Burner In Place (now redundant). The History Of Its Makers Origins Are Unknown But It Is Believed To Be British Arts And Crafts, Commissioned For The House, But We Have Also Debated The Possibility Of It Being A Grand Tour Piece From The Arabic Region. A Truly Beautiful And Very Very Unique Piece, When Lit, It Throws Out Light From The Pierced Cut Outs Which Creates A Good Ambient Light, This Piece Is More Than Just A Light And A Real Focal Point/Statement Piece.
It Would Make The Most Impressive Feature Light Whether In A Living/Dining Room, Hall Entryway Or Over A Kitchen Table; It Is Going To Impress. Remains In Excellent Condition, With Natural Historical Wears Including A Perfect Patina To The Copper, The Odd Very Faint/Minor Patina Scratch Which Is To Be Expected. The Construction Involves Many Small Nut And Bolts (please see the images), A Couple Of These Over The Years Have Disappeared (hardly worth mentioning) This Does Not Effect The Lantern In Any Way And Would Need Pointing Out Under Very Close Scrutiny To Spot (only spotted when doing detailed photographs). Inside The Ceiling Mount There Is A Cast Iron Bracket Making It Simple To Mount, This Would Have Been Included At Some Point In Its Life.

All In All An Exquisite And Unique Piece, Made To A Very High Standard, And With A Interesting History. This Would Compliment Almost Any Antique/Vintage Home Particularly If You Enjoy Moorish Influence In Design, Arts And Crafts, Quality Country Home Interiors, Or Simply Something To Enhance A Boho / Eclectic Home. Total Weight: 3.6kg Dimensions: full hang 105.5cm x full bowl diameter 36.5cm - the drop/hang can be reduced to your requirements be simply reducing the length of chain.
