Antique 19th century Georgian / Victorian English copper urn stockpot. Formed from one sheet of copper using a dovetail joint around the base and up behind one handle. The bronze handles are firmly fixed with copper rivets and the urn is tin lined. The lid is stamped WEG (probably the initials of the original chef owner). There is a clear impressed maker's mark for Jones Bros, Down St. Were well known ironmongers and maker's of very good quality cookware from approx. Dimensions 30cm dia x 30cm deep / Incl.
Handles 41cm W x 32cm H / Rim 2mm / Weight 9.4kg/ Tap length from pan 6cm. This superb urn would originally have had a hammered finish, which has all but rubbed away from years of cleaning and polishing. It is still lightly visibly giving an attractive finish to the patina. In overall good antique used condition with associated marks and wear. It rocks slightly on the surface but will not tip.
The tin lining is in a well used state so I would advise it be retinned before use. The tap works as it should. With over 200 years of history, this is a superb piece, of excellent quality, which would make a wonderful addition to any kitchen cookware collection. With care, it will give many more years of faithful service.
