Antique Copper Middle Eastern Turkish Dallah Coffee Tea Pot Water Pitcher. This fabulous antique copper pot is a wonderful example of late 19th century Middle Eastern Metalware. I wouldn't want to try and claim that I know much about this beautiful piece or where it came from so I'll let you, the viewer make your own mind up! From my research I can tell it's a Persian/Middle Eastern or possibly Turkish Coffee/Tea pot or perhaps water pitcher, from the late 1800s. It's made from mainly copper with I think Pewter at the neck and spout and throughout the piece there is this fantastic hammered effect made popular in the West by the very current Arts & Crafts Movement. There is some oxidisation going on around the joints and rim etc, but in my opinion it's aged patina just adds to it's rustic antique charm! 15 inches tall, 8 inches long from spout to widest point when facing side, 6.5 inches wide when spout facing front. This piece is in good antique condition, there is obviously age related wear and a general antique patina, but in terms of damage there are a couple of things to note such as a round ding at the base of the spout as shown in photos, then around the lid join there is oxidisation and rust and I'm not sure if it's a repair that has been done or just a reaction in the metal but that is shown in photos too. There is a repair where the base meets the bowl of the jug, which looks to have been filled with gold coloured soldered metal, this could have been braised, where a gold braising rod is heated with a torch with the idea being that the gold drips onto the piece that needs repairing.
This method is often used when the piece is delicate and may burn through when heated itself. Also there is a Japanese concept called Kintsugi, that sees broken items of all values being repaired with gold, this is based on the idea that things are improved by their flaws, becoming stronger and more beautiful when imperfections are embraced. Im not sure if these are what has happened here but it's fun to think about! This item is in the category "Antiques\Metalware\Copper".
