Antique 19th century Georgian / Victorian English copper urn stockpot. Formed from one sheet of copper using a dovetail joint around the base and up behind one handle. The bronze handles are firmly fixed with copper rivets and the urn is tin lined. The lid is stamped WEG (probably the initials of the original chef owner). There is a clear impressed maker's mark for Jones Bros, Down St. Were well known ironmongers and maker's of very good quality cookware from approx. Dimensions 30cm dia x 30cm deep / Incl. Discovered in Wiltshire this high-quality pan with cast iron handles was made by Jones Brothers of London and retailed through Harrods and is clearly stamped for both. The hand engraved initial under a crown on the lid shows this was made for someone of significance; possibly a peer of the realm. 12cm L: 23cm (including handles) D. It has clearly seen some use in its long life and shows signs of several very old repairs. The lid is slightly warped and has several marks and dents, particularly to the rim as does the pan itself.
